Frustration

frustration-word-indicating-irritated-wordclouds-and-embittered-f2prweI’ve learned that the word frustrate is a verb and can also be used as an adjective. I think that’s pretty cool. I’ve never looked at it that way. As a verb it means to prevent progress, success and fulfillment. As an adjective it means to feel upset, angry or annoyed. A similar word that’s often used in relation to frustrate is dispirit, which means to lose enthusiasm and hope. So now that we properly understand the meaning of the word frustration, let’s dive deeper into how it affects our thinking and lives overall. Often times frustration sets in when we have difficulty reaching a desired outcome or goal. I am learning that a little frustration is helpful; however, when our frustration causes us to become angry, unmotivated and stressed it then becomes a huge problem. I am one to get easily frustrated over the simplest things. I definitely know how it feels to work really hard at something and still not succeed or win. I feel it becomes a problem when negative emotions and thoughts take over because we eventually become dispirited. We lose hope, we lose our drive and may decide to give up. I’m here to tell you that giving up is definitely not an option and should never be considered. There is no way that one can regain control of their lives and truly start living again if we just decided to give up every time things didn’t work out. I understand that there are many things that occur in our lives that should cause us to be extremely frustrated and disappointed. We may feel despair and uneasy when hard times arise and may even sometimes feel like life has dealt us a bad hand. It could be something as minor as losing your keys or something as major and traumatic as losing a loved one, your home, your job or your family (marriage). All of these situations will lead to frustration.

Women often deal with some form of frustration in their marriage or relationship. Imagine being in love with someone for several of years only to find out that they committed the ultimate betrayal. This type of hurt and brokenness can leave a women in shambles. All sort of emotions become present. A broken hearted girl does not make wise decisions. In her brokenness she may decide to give up on love. To lose hope in men and to lose confidence in herself. She becomes angry, resentful and bitter. Now that’s frustration to the 100th degree!!

It is critical for us to not let our current circumstances cause us to lose sight of the future that God has prepared for us. A woman scorned, who feels rejected and betrayed because of one man’s disappointment to her could miss a grand opportunity to find her prince charming, her King like Esther, her Boaz like Ruth, in other words, the man that God created just for her.

God does not send frustrations because he wants us to quit or to give up. They come as only a test to strengthen us, to grow us and to help us become the person that he has designed us to be. Frustrations are preparation for greater things to come. If we make the decision to stand firm, to stand strong and to not throw the towel in surely we will see the goodness of the Lord began to work in our lives and his glory in our land. So I encourage you to be intentional with your words and your actions. Be intentional and practice self-control in every area of your life. Remember frustration leads to anxiety. Anxiety leads to overthinking and over thinking leads to worry and fear. None of these things are good for our spirits nor our minds. If we want to really live a purpose driven life we must learn to be intentional in everything we do. You can began to regain control of your frustrations by bathing in the word God. Speaking it over your life and the life of those around you. Remember life is what you make it so you have to write the vision and make it plain as Habakkuk did in the bible. He made his desires known to God , which gave God something to work with. Keeping a journal is also another really great way to manage your frustrations. I’ve been journaling since I was a little girl and I still do it today as an adult. Journaling helps to reduce stress, clears your mind and helps us to stay focused on the positive things that’s happening around us. Again write the vision and make it plain!!!! Then trust God to fulfill his promise to you!!!!
